Hello and welcome once more to our blog here at Remove My Dent. Today we want to look at some of the steps you should take if you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident. The better prepared you are the easier the whole process will be for you.
First and foremost after an accident you should check on both yourself and any passengers to ensure you are all OK and don`t have any serious injuries. After this you should check on the third party to see if they are fine.
Then, if your car is in a dangerous spot in the road you should, if it can be moved, drive it over to a safe area where it is not a danger to other road users and it is not blocking the road. If you have time to take photos on your mobile phone of your car before you move it that would be ideal, but only if it is safe to do so.
The next thing to do is to take down the third party`s registration plate details, and get the name and phone number of the driver along with any witnesses to the road accident. If the accident was not your fault then any witnesses could be crucial if you are to put in a claim and also to prove to the insurers the accident was through no fault of your own.
If the accident is deemed serious enough you should contact the police to come to the scene.
The next thing you should do is to contact your car insurer and give them all the details of the accident along with the damage to the car. If you want to put in a personal claim you need to contact a legal adviser, you may have legal cover on your insurance or you could contact an independent solicitor to deal with the accident.
Lastly if you have any kind of injuries you should go to your local hospital and get checked out, and get a hospital number off them which will help if you are putting in a claim.
